Council to bring day centre back in-house

Slough Borough Council will take over the running of the Age Concern Slough and Berkshire East older person day service from January 2018.

Following an extensive review of its day centre and day provision for older people, the council has decided to bring the Windmill Resource Centre service in-house to be managed alongside The Pines day centre service.

The council determined that by bringing the current service in-house it will be able to review current capacity and plan for the future.

People who currently attend the Windmill Resource Centre will continue to receive a service that meets their needs.

Slough Borough Council will officially take over the service provision on 1 January 2018.

Alan Sinclair, director of adults and communities, said: “Providing older people with high quality day opportunities is a top priority for the council and we have carried out an in-depth review to ensure this happens.

“We feel that by bringing the Windmill Resource Centre back in-house we can provide the best possible service to our residents.

“The council is offering the current workforce at the Windmill Resource Centre a chance to move across to Slough Borough Council.

“We look forward to welcoming the team next year as we work to continue to transform the services we provide to meet the needs of older people in Slough.”
